Sharon Pratt Ms. Pratt was the first woman elected Mayor of the Nations Capital, one of the few women in United States history to serve as chief executive of a major city/territory. During her tenure she advanced and sustained reform across all spheres of government. She was able to achieve unprecedented alliances with neighboring jurisdictions, the federal government and the private sectora collaborative approach critical to addressing far reaching challenges--such as an epidemic (HIV/AIDS/TB), youth gangs, or organizing for potential terrorist attacks during the Persian Gulf War. From establishing the winning formula for addressing Districts unfunded pension liability, to right- sizing government, to attaining Congressional commitment for a federal payment formula, to addressing the structural deficit, emergency response to storms, automation of government, comprehensive-coordinated initiatives for Citys youth, cleaning up the Anacostia River, restoring the Citys trees, recruiting a NBA team to the City as well as identifying the MCI tract of landwhich fueled revival of downtown Washington, welcoming international soccer to the City, and much, much more. Her team re-engineered the structure of governmentestablished new effective paradigms throughout governmentand prepared the city for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. Sharon Pratt is native Washingtonian, an honors graduate of Howard Universitys School of Liberal Arts and Law, a Falk Fellow, a former law professor, a litigator, in house counsel, Of Counsel with a national law firm and a former senior electric utility executive, the first woman to serve as Treasurer of the National Democratic Committee. Ms. Pratt also served as a Senior Fellow at the Institute of Politics at the Kennedy School (Harvard University). She has attained honorsincluding Glamour magazines Woman of the Year Award, the Congressional Black Caucus Mary McCleod Bethune-W.E. Dubois award, Clean Cities Award, etc. She has also served on several boards, including the Opportunity Funding Corporation Board, the Society for PSP (Progressive Supra Nuclear Palsy) Board, Emmitsburg St. Marys College Board, Center for Creative Leadership Board.
